Varithena is a new, FDA-approved, nearly painless way to treat varicose veins and improve symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, with no incisions, sedation, or general anesthesia. Bellamah Vein Center performs this procedure in our comfortable office setting.

Varithena is covered by most Medicare and insurance plans. Coverage may depend on the severity of your varicose veins and symptoms.

How It Works

Varithena is an injection microfoam that is delivered to the diseased vein in as few as 1-2 needle sticks. The microfoam closes down the diseased vein, allowing blood to flow through other, healthier veins. Varithena dissolves in the bloodstream after treatment.

How It’s Different

Unlike other procedures, Varithena does not use a laser, heat, or multiple injections. No sedative is required. There is no need for incisions or stitches, and the procedure is usually completed in less than one hour.

Before the Procedure

When you arrive, our nursing staff and ultrasound technician will spend about 30 minutes preparing you for your treatment.

During the Procedure

Dr. Bellamah usually numbs the injection site with one needle stick. You may feel some minor pain or stinging.

Once the area is numb, he injects a small amount of Varithena. The microfoam fills the desired section of the vein, causing it to collapse. Blood flow is redirected to healthier nearby veins. The microfoam disperses as it comes into contact with blood in healthy veins.

If necessary, Dr. Bellamah administers the microfoam to any other veins that need treatment.

After the Procedure

After the procedure, you will be cared for by our nursing staff. Many patients return to normal activity immediately. Dr. Bellamah can help you determine what is right for you.
