Some people have spider veins on their feet or ankles. Spider veins are small, dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin. They may be red, blue, purplish, or greenish in color.

Unattractive veins on feet and ankles may be a cosmetic issue, but removing them safely and effectively takes an expert. At Bellamah Vein Center, Dr. David Bellamah will recommend the right procedure to get rid of unsightly foot and ankle veins.

Treating Foot Veins with VeinGogh

Often, spider veins on the foot or ankle can be treated with a state-of-the-art procedure called VeinGogh. VeinGogh uses a hair-thin probe to deliver a microburst of energy to the vein. The resulting heat causes the vein to collapse and disappear. The surrounding skin is not damaged, so there is usually only a minimal amount of redness after the procedure. Most cases require a series of treatments scheduled a few weeks apart.

Treating Foot Veins with Sclerotherapy

For some foot veins, Dr. Bellamah will recommend sclerotherapy. In sclerotherapy, a tiny needle is used to make multiple injections of a solution (called a sclerosant) into the vein. This solution causes the vein walls to stick together and then seal shut. The vein can no longer hold blood and is eventually absorbed by the body. It will take several weeks for the treated veins to fade and disappear. Most cases require a series of treatments scheduled a few weeks apart.

Treating Foot Veins with Phlebectomy

For some foot veins, Dr. Bellamah will recommend phlebectomy. In phlebectomy, a series of pinhole incisions are made next to the vein(s) to be treated. A special hook is then used to gently remove the vein in sections through these incisions. More than one vein may be removed in a single session.

VeinGogh, Sclerotherapy, and Phlebectomy can be done in our comfortable office setting in Missoula or Kalispell. You’ll be able to return to your normal activities right away.
