Patients are awake for all procedures. You’ll receive local anesthesia for RFA, phlebectomy, and EVLT. Sometimes you may be given a mild sedative to help you relax.
You’ll be able to walk and go home soon after all procedures. After most treatments, a compression bandage is applied and worn for 24 hours. Walking helps to redirect the blood to healthier veins that are deeper in the leg. To speed healing and improve circulation, compression stockings are worn for two weeks following most procedures.
While in the past varicose veins were often thought of as a cosmetic issue, we now realize that more is going on beneath the surface. Varicose veins can progress to a more serious form of venous disease called chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).
Your initial consultation will take about 30 minutes. Our physician assistant (PA) conducts a full medical history, discusses your symptoms, and visually examines your legs. Then, our PA and Dr. Bellamah review all the information just gathered to determine the best treatment options for you. Dr. Bellamah will discuss these recommendations with you and answer any questions you have. He may order a diagnostic venous ultrasound, which will show the veins that are damaged and require treatment.
